Crime Prevention Safety Tips

Theft is one of the major crimes on campus. Remember that BYU–Hawaii is an open campus, meaning it is open to the public and not just students, staff, and faculty. Please help us help keep you and your property safe. Report any theft, damage, or suspicious activity to Campus Safety & Security (808) 675-3911.

Here Are a Few Suggestions to Protect Your Property

Housing Safety

• Never leave personal belongings unattended-even for a minute.
• Keep your doors locked even while you are home.
• Don’t keep large amounts of money in your room or on your person.
• Don’t leave your laundry unattended.
• Don’t give your keys or credit cards to anyone. Don’t attach your ID to your keys.
• Beware of your surroundings.
• Never go anywhere alone with someone you don’t know well.
• Participate in group outings.
• Choose from the many alcohol and drug-free options for fun on campus.
• Don’t carry large amounts of cash.

Bicycles

• Register your bike with campus safety and security.
• Always lock both the wheels and the frame to the bike rack with a quantity “U” style lock.
• Lock your skateboard or longboard to the skateboard rack.

Vehicles

• Keep your vehicle locked with the windows up.
• Don’t leave your laptop, cell phone, money, or other valuables.
• Take valuables with you or put them in the trunk.
